This Grosbeak appears annually in winter on the southern California coast. It is regular but rare through the west during migration. Breeding territories range from Alberta east through Canada, and south through the mid-western US states going east. This grosbeak is casual statewide in Washington in spring and summer (May-July). It occurs almost annually. It is accidental in fall and winter (Sept-Jan).
