Non-Breeding Birds Distribution Map

NatureMapping Observations throughout the year

Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus)

The Washington Gap Analysis Project created breeding bird maps only. The non-breeding birds (e.g., wintering, pelagic (coastal), and birds expanding their ranges) are represented only by NatureMapping sightings.

Species Distribution Information

This is our largest falcon which year-around inhabits open tundra of Alaska, the Northwest Territories, the Arctic Islands, the coasts of Greenland and Newfoundland. In some winters it has an irruptive range corresponding roughly with the US-Canada border and makes an occasional appearance in the Northwest.
