The green area shows the predicted habitats for breeding only. The habitats were identified using 1991 satellite imagery, other datasets and experts throughout the state, as part of the Washington Gap Analysis Project.

Metadata (Data about data or how the map was made)

This species found from sea level to timberline krummholz and the lower part of alpine, in coniferous and mixed forests. Cover provided by logs, shrubs, and other ground cover is important. Usually more abundant at higher elevations and in moist forests. Often present in talus and old burns. In eastern Washington, found in the moister stands of Ponderosa Pine (Physocarpus. Above timberline is occurs only in talus and wet meadows.

Core zones included all forested zones and Alpine/Parkland. All wooded riparian areas, non-forested, and forested habitats were good, except in the Ponderosa and Oak zones, in which non-forested habitats were excluded.
