Farmer Invitation

Dear ___________,

I have been given a summer assignment. I will be collecting data on the short-horned lizard. The data will be used by the Univrsity of Washington NatureMapping Project to make maps showing the location of these lizards in Douglas county.

My teacher, Mrs. Petersen, knows that kids and farmers are the MOST likely people to see short-horned lizards, also known as "horny toads". She also knows that in the summer, I might accidently forget to collect the data. That's why I'm asking you to be my "adopted farmer."

You and I would remind each other to watch for short-horned lizards as we go about our regular routines this summer. All it would require from you is a couple of phone calls and writing down some things whenver you sighted a horny toad.

If you would be willing to work with me on this project, please come to my classroom for a short informational meeting on Wednesday, June 9 at 8:30 a.m. That's Mrs. Petersen's room on the east end of the building by the blacktop.

I'm looking forward to meeting you. When you get this letter, please call me to let me know if you can join the project or not.

My phone number is __________. If you have questions, you can call Mrs. Petersen at school (745-8585) or at home.

Sincerely,
