Little River Boy finds himself in a flooded meadow floating down the river. He bumps into a mother mallard and her three ducklings. One chick thinks this creature is very different. The funny thing looks suspicious and the duckling starts to peck at it. Then the mother comes and takes her baby away.

Drifting along, Little River Boy is now alone until a garter snake comes. The garter snake is tired from the swim and thinks Little River Boy is a nice place to stop and rest on. She leaves after her nap.

It is getting dark where Little River Boy is. Transforming in the night, the sunset turns from a light blue to a deep purple. Then, bright orange, pink, and finally a neon yellow. As the sun goes down, noises start to follow. The only evidence though was their yellow glowing eyes in the dark cool night. Little River Boy gets stuck in cattails. Struggling in the mess, Little River Boy is bumped by a fish. Little River Boy is relieved to be free and drifts toward the upcoming pasture.
