While Little River Boy floats down the stream, he sees miles and miles of tall green grass. Suddenly, a coyote runs across the stream and Little River Boy gets picked up into the coyote's slobbery mouth.

Little River Boy rides on the coyote's fuzzy back for miles and miles. It stopped in the dark woods where lay five little coyote pups.

Coyotes come playing with Little River Boy putting teeth marks in his boat. Finally, Little River Boy falls from the coyote's back into a bed of soft green grass. Night falls while he listens to the coyote's howl loudly all night.

In the morning, Little River Boy gets caught on the coyote cub's foot. Again, the coyote takes the long journey through the tall weeds and grasses. Little River Boy is dropped off back into the stream where he continues his journey.

While flowing down the stream he sees a giant red-tailed hawk soaring through the bright blue sky. Just that instant the hawk dove into the stream catching a fish that his Little River Boy's boat with its tail almost knocking him into a giant gray rock.
