How to Collect Data

Weekly Monitoring

Data Collection Form

NatureMappers may go out once a week to observe wildlife at the same location. They may or may not go out at the same time each trip. But, the may be seeing the same individuals at each trip.

If they added the number of individuals observed each trip, the number would be inflated. If your question is how many species do we see a week? Total the number of species observed. If your question is how many individuals of each species do we see a week? Data should be averaged.

Submit the averaged data to NatureMapping.

For example, in April these observations were made:
April   1, 2008 - 9 American crows
April   8, 2008 - 2 American crows
April 15, 2008 - 6 American crows
April 22, 2008 - 2 American crows

Therefore, the monthly record would show:
April, 2008      - 5 American crows
                          (always round up)

Note:  9 + 2 + 6 + 2 American Crows = 19.

Divide by 4 observation dates and round up to get 5 American Crows for the Monthly Record
