Did You Know?

Agriculture

Many areas of our country have very little rainfall. Farmers have been able to grow crops by irrigating their land.

DID YOU KNOW...
  • Worldwide, agriculture uses 65% of all water removed from rivers, lakes and ground water aquifers.
  • In the United States, irrigation uses 40% of our nation's water.

Agriculture also includes farm-raised fish (aquaculture), and other products not always recognized as part of the agricultural industry, such as poinsettias that generate over $170 million a year in sales (source EPA: Liquid Assets).
